What factors contribute to the attainment gap between SEND and non-SEND pupils in Year 5 in the chosen school?
This study will use a mixed-methods approach to gather data. The quantitative data will be collected through the analysis of pupils’ school records and assessments, while the qualitative data will be collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers and parents. The sample size will be 100 pupils, including 50 SEND and 50 non-SEND pupils. The sample will be selected from Year 5 pupils in a primary school in Bradford.
Descriptive statistics, such as mean, median, mode, and standard deviation, will be used to analyze the academic attainment of SEND and non-SEND pupils in Year 5 in the chosen school. A t-test will be used to compare the means of academic attainment between SEND and non-SEND pupils. Qualitative data from interviews will be analyzed using thematic analysis.
Ethical considerations will be taken into account, and informed consent will be sought from parents and teachers. The data collected will be kept confidential and anonymous, and participation will be voluntary.
