Make a presentation – a policy review of Tuam Local Area Plan. ( a town in Ireland )
Places, like towns, villages, cities and suburban areas are increasingly being targeted as key sites for arts development. This development sits within wider initiatives to support better quality of life as well as promote attractiveness for economic inward investment and moves to fostering greater cultural democracy. Initiatives include ‘cultural mapping’ to uncover as well as target specific demographic and/or geographic areas that have not historically received significant and/or sustained funding from national and local arts bodies nor explicitly appear to have been “engaged” in “quality”, subsidised arts. In this first of a 2-part session, we will explore how, why and in what way places are targeted as being (or not) ‘creative’.
